JARABACOA / CONSTANZA — TRANSPORTATION

“Caribe Tours” is the only national bus line that travels to Jarabacoa (four times a day from Santo Domingo).  Constanza can be reached by smaller bus services that typically pass through other regional towns like La Vega, as well as Santiago.  Those already at Jarabacoa and want to visit Constanza are advised to get a taxi (conchcar) that can drive them there.  Minivan services (known locally as “voladoras)” also drop off passengers at major highway areas that lead to these mountain towns.

 

Like anywhere else on the island, for those arriving from the capital, Santiago or other regional towns like Puerto Plata or La Vega) there are always “conch car” drivers who can make themselves available for a pre-negotiated fee.  Some who are spending an extended period of time in this part of the country are advised to rent (if possible) a 4-wheel drive vehicle or SUV (with thick tires), since some of the mountain roads are muddy
